I’ve noticed after upgrading from Dapper to Edgy that my password for desktop sharing on my Ubuntu box wouldn’t work. I chalked it up to aftermath of an upgrade, but it kept happening at what seemed to be random times. I finally had my last straw today and decided to research it. A Google search first took me to this Ubuntu forum post, which then took me this bug report and also the workaround. After following the steps in the workaround, I rebooted and it was fixed! Thanks to KeesCook for posting the workaround.
I know this is late news, but I meant to post this video as soon as I saw it on Monday. The Texas A&M Fightin’ Aggies defeated the t.u. longhorns 12 to 7 in a major upset at the annual day-after-Thanksgiving football game. The following video is a great clip of highlights from the game. Enjoy!
Trey and I were just looking at the source for a web site on his computer and I was amazed at the beautiful and easy-to-read source he was looking at. He was using the View Source Chart extension for Firefox, which I now think is a must have for web developers. The link to the 2.5.02 version of the extension is here, but the author’s page has version 2.6 that you can pay $3 for and will show collapsible JavaScript blocks. The $3 is good for all future upgrades AND can come with your own CSS to style the source.
I have to agree with Trey that Heroes is definitely my new favorite show on TV. It has barely edged out Lost, but only because Lost has become so convoluted. I’m really only writing this to test sending a trackback to another blog and decided that Trey’s blog would be a good candidate! Let’s see if this works!
Some I discovered recently, which I thought I should share, is that Firefox automatically backs up your bookmarks file every day for 5 days. This information came in handy recently when my father-in-law told me he lost all of his bookmarks. Something was corrupt with his profile, but his bookmarks were still there! To find the backups in Windows XP, go to C:\Documents and Settings\[your profile name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[firefox profile name]\bookmarkbackups and you’ll see the last five days worth of bookmark backups.
I upgraded my home server to Ubuntu’s latest release, Edgy Eft, about a week ago. Everything went fine, as expected, except one issue: every time I ran apt-get dist-upgrade, it would say that a bunch of python packages and the hpjis package were being held back. After a quick Google search, I found this forum post, which advised to use the aptitude program. Using aptitude took some getting used to, but after applying updates with it, my package dependency issues were resolved! Thanks goes to Ziox, the ubuntuforums.org member that recommended aptitude.
